A chartered health and safety professional (CMIOSH) with an MSc in safety, health and environmental management, a BEng (Hons) degree in Chemical Engineering, and more than 25 years of Health, Safety and Environmental experience in a wide variety of work sectors, from the creative arts and finance to manufacturing and high hazard establishments operating under COMAH.
A very experienced HSE consultant with specialisms that include the development and implementation of health, safety and environmental management systems to recognised standards. Also experienced in working with operational teams to improve HSE standards and develop and implement pragmatic solutions to achieve successful outcomes to problems posed.
Interpersonal skills are highly developed with the ability to negotiate HSE objectives and targets at senior management level. A very effective project manager able to maintain good working relationships with both internal and external parties with enhanced analytical, planning and organisational skills to expedite projects successfully.

Health and Safety Consultant | 05.2011 - 06.2014 | Responsible for the management of health and safety support and advice to a diverse client portfolio. Main responsibilities included the development of tailored health and safety management systems, carrying out health and safety audits and inspections, the development and delivery of health and safety training programmes, providing assistance with task and workplace risk assessments, and carrying out fire risk assessments. I was the nominated health and safety committee member for the division, responsible for liaising with health and safety representatives and collating health and safety management information and compiling monthly reports. I deputised for the Group Health and Safety Manager during his absence from the business. |
Health, Safety and Environmental Manager - Pharmaceuticals | 06.2014 - 08.2016 | As HSE Manager I had overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the site HSE strategy and management systems, and personally managed an allocated budget of around £400k per annum. The site was the EMEA headquarters for the Group comprising manufacturing facilities, a synthetic DNA/oligo synthesis production department, a UK distribution centre, customer experience centre, the EMEA IT administration department and almost 600 on-site personnel. The role required me to have adequate arrangements in place to manage the site’s regulatory permits for emissions to air and water, and to liaise with regulatory authorities including the HSE, SEPA, Scottish Water and the Animal and Plant Health Agency. I was a key member of the campus wellbeing committee with line management responsibility for the site EHS Specialist. |
