As a Time served Indentured Toolmaker, I was involved in designing press tools and workstations for steel and plastic component production lines, and tool room environments and worked in Royal Engineers and Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (TA) for 14 years.
I have provided advice and guidance to an NHS trust regarding laboratory layout for testing slides resulting from cervical and bowel screening processes which led to changes in design and layout of machinery location, ventilation systems and safe working practices and processes resulting from frequent staff exposure to Xylene. I also reviewed working practices and processes for a large automated pharmaceutical warehouse to identify and overcome occupational health issues for a number of employees with underlying health conditions. Recently worked with Lisi Aerospace, in Rugby on an occupational health issue for staff.
I have worked in housing for 4 years identifying failings and good working practices proposed in PQQ’s and involved in contractor selection, management and accident incident investigation when failings arose during and after construction.
As contract manager for Defra in 2001 I was responsible for supervising a number of quantity surveyors and administration staff when managing contractor safety and activities across the whole of wales and other parts of the UK involved with cleaning and disinfecting farms and demolishing and reconstructing others. This involved oversight and management of several hundred contracts across around 60 contracting organisations involved in civil engineering, construction, demolition and slaughtering/ rendering projects.
Experienced in Health & Safety /HR /Training strategy, accident and incident investigations, root cause analysis, risk assessments, quality standards, risk register management, safety audits, safety training delivery, site safety management, safety training initiatives, occupational health and sickness absence management, design and delivery of training.
Currently, and for 32 months, I have been carrying out fire risk assessments for hotels, nursing homes and a charity, reviewing and rewriting e-learning programmes for SRCL for fire and COSHH training. Conducting specialist ergonomic assessments for many companies, recommending changes in work station and computer workstation areas, as well as recommending specialist equipment, and identifying and making referrals within companies for additional occupational health, wellbeing and mental health support, to manage sick absence and improve return to work rates. (Clients include Lloyds bank and HSBC call centres and branches, Admiral Insurance, British gas, Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Swansea and Carmarthen universities). Providing high level strategic planning, policy development and implementation skills to consistently improve H&S/HR/Training performances.
