Trained as a welding and fabrication professional, using various welding processes such as MIG, TIG, Arc on a variety of specialist materials and worked in a range of different industrial sectors including Oil, Gas, Chemical, Nuclear, Shipping, Manufacturing, etc. The work was in both the UK & Overseas.

Key Role - To develop in-house HSE expertise to carry out risk assessment and develop procedures that improved on-site safety both in the UK and Overseas whilst maintaining quality.

Key Achievement - During this period, the company did not have any accident/incident that required medical treatment and no serious near misses were recorded by the company or their Clients.

Balmer Lindley Group Ltd

Key Role - To ensure that the manufacturing unit achieved their HSE objectives (i.e. nil treatable accidents) by auditing the processes on a daily basis and advising the manufacturing management on any work practices or changes to HSE legislation that required their action to ensure compliance.  

Key Achievement - Improved HSE performance of this unit which resulted in the company having no issues with any enforcement agency.

Darlington College

Key Role - To support the Head of Service by providing advice and guidance to Departments, Services and others in respect of HSE to ensure legal compliance is achieved and that all HSE risks are actively managed

Other responsibilities include:

ó  Development and maintenance of the Corporation Safety Management system, including auditing of the whole safety management system.

ó  Provider of immediate Health & Safety advice and guidance to staff, students and college partners.

ó  Development and maintenance of Health & Safety Policy and other relevant policies, procedures and guidance.

ó  Development and implementation of the HSE Risk Assessment Program, including coordinating the review process, undertaking assessments, accident/incident investigation and analysis.

ó  Ensure the implementation and maintenance of the Management Emergency Procedures including regular reviews and updates, as and when required.  Including updating fire/first aid risk assessments, fire plans and carrying out Personnel Emergency Evacuation Plans.

ó  Maintain all registers, records and documentation relating to HSE, including COSHH, Accident/Incidents and risk assessments, whilst seeking trends and patterns.  All key issues and findings are submitted to management in regular written reports.

ó  Lead promotion of a positive Health & Safety culture ensuring the effective implementation of corporation policy, including devising and delivering proactive Health & Safety awareness campaigns and undertaking Health & Safety inductions for staff, students, contractors and college partners.

ó  Advise on the HSE objectives, priorities and standards, so that SMART criteria are achieved for performance management.

ó  Undertake accident/incident investigations and notify HSE of any RIDDOR reports.

ó  Liaise with departmental and trade union safety representatives, safety committee and the Chief Executive on HSE issues when required, including advice on HSE/Fire training and awareness programs.

ó  Advise on all aspects of Occupational Health, liaising with Occupational Health Providers as required, including undertaking all Health & Safety/ergonomic risk assessments.

ó  Liaise with various Regulatory Authorities, local Fire & Rescue Brigade, Local Government Enforcement Officers, Insurance Investigators, Solicitors and Consultant Engineers.

ó  Assess the professional competence of prospective contractors in relation to HSE and issue all work permits in line with Contractor's Approved Code of Practice.

ó  Full responsibility of the health and safety budget.

ó  Act as Child Protection and the Protection of Vulnerable Adult Deputy, participate in risk assessments and training across college. Also work with Police and local Safeguarding Officers.

ó  Member of Cross College Working Groups. Also advise various Committees, Working Groups and Project Teams.

Key Achievement - In 2005, I developed and implemented the HSE plan and all new policies and procedures relating to the College's move from their old site to a new site. The move was achieved on time and without any significant incident.

NFU Mutual – Risk Management Services Ltd

Key Role - To support the Head of Service by providing advice and guidance to Departments, Services and others in respect of HSE to ensure legal compliance is To give to expert advice and guidance to a range of clients in respect of HSE to ensure legal compliance is achieved and that all HSE risks are actively managed.

Other responsibilities include:

ó  Produce client audit health and safety audit report which includes recommendations.

ó  Development of the Health and Safety Documentation including policies, risk assessments, safe systems of work, COSHH assessments and employees handbooks.

ó  Undertake safety talks with employees.
