Responsible for a team of EHS Advisors and the following projects – Coventry, West Midlands TDM, Exeter TD, Westbury TD, and Manchester TD Renewals.  Tender/Bids & GRIP4+ - Water Orton, Walsall & Cannock, Shirley Stratford, Doncaster, Leicester Re-control, Robin Hood, Nottingham, Reading Enabling and Salisbury/Exeter.  Responsible for:

• Managing all EHS requirements for Type B, C, D & E projects and GRIP4+ Type A projects
• Implementing & co-ordinating safety activities for the project required by Company standards, the customer and legislative bodies, from tender through to post-commissioning phases on Mainline Railway projects
• Carrying out Health, Safety and Environmental checks of subcontractors in support of existing contracts, tenders, bids and proposals
• Chairing monthly EHS meetings with subcontractors, customers and the client
• Carrying out regular site safety & environmental inspections ensuring safe working practices
• Performing audits against ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS 18001 and company objectives and targets
• Providing advice and guidance to internal departments, sub-contractors and customers on good Health, Safety and Environmental management practice
• Carrying out investigations into non-compliances, accidents and incidents to find root causes and to recommend the most effective corrective actions, providing written reports
• Developing and delivering project inductions, safety alerts and toolbox talks
• Attending Invensys Safety Leadership Team (Level 2 & 3) and developing good working practices to influence a good safety culture

I managed a large HSQE team, responsible for the HSQE activities for the business.  My main responsibilities were:

• Provide professional support and guidance to enable the effective management of health and safety in accordance with Policies, Standards, Procedures and Operation licenses.
• development, implementation and maintenance of the Integrated Management System (IMS) and the underpinning standards and procedures.
• Accountable for ensuring all activities are carried out in compliance with the company Safety Certificate (including the Principal Contractors Licence and Plant Operators Scheme), and the IMS system
• Represent the company in respect of H&S client interface requirements relevant to contract/project specific issues.
• Ensure all accidents/incidents and near miss incidents are correctly reported and are the subject of a suitable and sufficient investigation in accordance with company standards including the management and satisfactory close out of resultant remedial actions designed to prevent recurrence.
• Conduct appraisals of direct reports and identify training and development needs to the HSQE Director as and when required.

As the HSQES Lead for the East of Leeds project (TRUe Alliance) I sat on the Alliance Management Team (AMT) and managed a HSQES team, responsible for the HSQES activities for the alliance.  My main responsibilities were:

• Accountable for coordination of Principal Contractor activities ensuring CDM2015 compliance
• Development and implementation of HSQES Strategic Goals
• Providing HSQES leadership to the alliance management and project teams

I work as a freelance, self employed safety consultant, specialising in the following areas:

• Undertaking, leading and/or supporting safety and accident investigations, trained to MSc level at Cranfield University, in Safety and Accident Investigation (Rail Transport)
• Delivering bespoke IOSH approved incident investigation training course specific to the (client’s) industry, which includes immersive training in an actual accident scenario, that sets it apart from other incident investigation training courses
• Post investigation event reviews which evaluate the effectiveness of an investigation and provide guidance on improvements, including the option of technical workshops based on review findings
• First Responders investigation awareness training aimed at ensuring effective management of the incident site and providing first line support for the business/investigation lead in mobilising the subsequent investigation
