I have worked in a varierty of industries some of which were high hazard and have over twenty years experience in Health and Safety. Health and Safety Advisor | 03.2013 - 07.2017 | The Port of Dover gave me exposure to multiple duty holder roles; predominantly acting as the client, but also on occasions as principal contractor, sub-contractor, landlord as well as the Port Authority) working alongside statutory agencies (such as Border Force, Kent Fire & Rescue Service and other external entities) not to mention the Port’s own police force and supply chain. The marine based environment broadened my experience and further developed my understanding of the Port’s operational requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
· Involved in a variety of activities ranging from developing and overseeing significant construction projects (which included highways, demolition, heritage structures) to small refurbishment, maintenance, M&E work but also fresh produce storage warehouses. · Instrumental in enhancing the Port’s management system by; implementing visual standards so contractors and staff had a simple to understand document, developing schedule of audits, improving incident reporting, working collaboratively with contractors by establishing regular liaison meetings and holding annual safety forums. · Implemented a series of HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environmental) tours with senior management (including the CEO) to enhance; both management visibility but also shape a positive Health & Safety culture within the organisation. |
Health and Safety Advisor | 06.2009 - 03.2013 | Cross rail C512 Whitechapel Station refurbishment (Balfour Beatty Morgan Sindall JV) £110 Million, · C512 was a high-profile project which involved the refurbishment of the existing station / platform areas and the construction of 3 access shafts to connect up to the new tunnel platforms, whilst maintaining the underground service without disruption.
Area 4 Highway Maintenance Contract (Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald JV) £250+ Million
· The Area 4 contract consisted of maintenance of the highways throughout Kent & Sussex. It also involved small construction sites for improvement works throughout the counties.
M25 Section 4 (Skanska & Balfour Beatty JV) £5.5+ Billion (Highways)
· The M25 was one of the highest profile projects for the enabling of the Olympics and was also the biggest highway project awarded by the Highways Agency. Some of the challenges faced included the interface with members of public, heavy traffic flows and demanding deadlines for the works completion. |

· Employed as a manager on the combined heating power project installing a GRP pipeline inside the power station. This included the positioning of 12meter lengths of 2.2meter pipe and laminating it together with resin. |
