Infrastructure Safety Due Diligence
Due Diligence
Due Diligence tends to be associated with the financial aspects of investments.
This, in isolation, makes a great deal of sense as investments are ultimately about delivering secure financial returns. A traditional due diligence exercise may well seek a level of comfort on the integrity of the investment asset but often there is little or no real consideration of the safety risk associated with an asset.
There is a strong correlation between safety performance and business performance and therefore good reason for investors to incorporate safety into due diligence exercises.
Why Infrastructure Safety Due Diligence?
Infrastructure assets have a crucial role in the economy; indeed, some assets are significant enough to be classified as Critical National Infrastructure (CNI). Whatever the nature of the infrastructure being invested in, they inevitably serve a useful purpose and frequently gain a profile in the public domain. Thus, understanding the safety risk provides a proactive means of assessing a key element of to demonstrably protect your investment and to potentially reduce a critical risk element within the overall risk profile and raising safety awareness at Board, Executive and Operations levels.
While contemplating the potential benefits of safety in the Due Diligence it’s important to appreciate the obligations placed on organisations “… where failings by an organisation’s senior management are a substantial element in any gross breach of the duty of care owed to the organisation’s employees or members of the public, which results in death.” [HSE/IoD].
In short, if you hold an influential position, ultimately you are accountable; and we would be pleased to help.
How We Can Help
Strategic Safety Consultants Ltd (SSCL) has developed a safety governance and due diligence assessment methodology to establish the extent to which Boards, Executive Teams and Managers engage with the Safety agenda and the Safety Culture this engagement has achieved. The scope of assessments can be adjusted to include solely the level of Leadership Engagement up to a full assessment of how safety is lead and managed within a business. We have the experience necessary to assimilate the findings and present informed practical and strategic improvement recommendations and to enable you to make more informed investment decisions.
We remain wholly independent and do not seek to undertaken follow-up work with the organisations we assess and will only do so if the organisation specifically requests us to do so.
We can combine assessments of ‘corporate engagement’ and ‘safety culture maturity’ to determine an overall picture or can focus on specific areas of interest or concern:
Corporate Engagement:
· Safety Leadership and Commitment.
· Safety Risk Management.
· Review and Improvement.
Safety Culture:
· Safety Culture Improvement
· Safety Leadership Maturity
· Overall Safety Culture Maturity Level
Each assessment is led by Tim Ingram and often supported by Karen Ingram. This ensures a consistent and professional approach to our assessments and assures a culturally sympathetic engagement.
